Richard – International Trade & Logistics Expert
With over 26 years of experience in logistics and international trade, Richard is a trusted expert in global commerce. He launched his career running a successful freight forwarding business before founding Export Unlocked in 1997. Originally a freight forwarding company, it evolved into a specialist international trade consultancy in 2016.
Richard brings deep knowledge of importing and exporting, customs compliance, and global supply chains. He has delivered accredited international trade training across the UK and globally, working with organisations such as the Essex Chamber, Halton Chamber, and Lincolnshire Chamber.
His Diagnostics Health Check helps companies assess and improve their trade and customs practices. From online workshops to in-person seminars, Richard’s training is practical, up-to-date, and industry-relevant.
Internationally, he has presented at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Qatar Development Bank in Doha, and led trade training in Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and beyond. His global experience gives him unique insight into diverse market dynamics.
Richard is also passionate about innovation in trade technology. He spent four years working with a California-based AI company focused on real-time visibility and customs solutions. Since 2024, he has been based in Lithuania, expanding his expertise in AI for international trade.
In 2025, Richard will return to Saudi Arabia to deliver trade training to over 50 professionals, continuing his mission to support businesses in navigating the complexities of international markets.
Tom McGrath
Director, Customs & Compliance Consultant
Tom spent his entire professional career in the Irish Customs & Excise Service. Prior to his retirement, he was Head of Customs Audit Unit in Large Cases Division.
Since his retirement, Tom took up appointment as a National Customs Trade & Compliance Manager for one of the World’s Leading Freight & Logistics Companies. He has also acted as an independent Consultant to one of the World’s Largest Accountancy Firms during which he has delivered Customs Training to various Government Semi State Organisations & Private Companies in various Countries. In conjunction with Consultation in respect of Customs Auditing, he currently advises Traders with their planning of SOP’s as part of their Compliance obligations in their preparation for Brexit.
During his career he spent 4 years as an Auditor/Investigator with the European Commission in Brussels and has travelled extensively throughout the World, auditing Commercial & Financial records. He was instrumental in the preparation & publication of an EU Customs Audit Manual. Prior to the accession of various Countries to the EU, Tom also delivered onsite Customs Audit Training to assist Customs Administrations in their preparation.

Humphrey is a Graduate of the Institute of Export and International Trade (MIEx Grad) and a Member of the FSB.
Humphrey has over 34 years experience in import & export having previously worked for a luxury fashion handbag manufacturer in the South West and prior to this with a major shoe manufacturer in Somerset.
With a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of import and export procedures Humphrey is able to ensure that companies are able to satisfy the complex rules governing the movement of goods around the world, including the following key areas…
- Evaluating, revising and implementing Customs Compliance processes, procedures and practises to ensure that companies are compliant through audits.
- Advising companies on Brexit with its possible impact on importing and exporting procedures.
- In a warehouse environment ensuring that processes and procedures are in place, enabling the warehouse and distribution operation to be able to run in a timely and efficient manner.
- Support with the planning and organisation with the seasonal business requirements placed upon the warehouse in terms of the day to day operations and budgetary control.

Mark brings with him a wealth of experience in Supply chain , having spent over 30 years in Air and Sea freight and Customs Warehouse , Mark has joined Export Unlocked to develop our new Supply Chain management Support.
Having worked in the international supply chain and logistics industry for over 30 years Mark had played a key role in the development of worldwide air road and sea movements, throughout his career mark has held operational, management, sales support and full-time sales roles, Mark is extremely customer focused and believes in delivering a first-class service to all of his clients.
Mark has spent the last 2 years working for an US Digital Customs company based at Silicon Valley and brings with him a wealth of knowledge in Digital Transformation.
